This past year, over 525,600 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States alone.

March 11, 2021 marks 365 days since the World Health Organization declared the pandemic. Just like other terrifying moments in history — such as the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion and 9/11 — it’s almost impossible to forget where you were the day the world changed forever.

If you’re a fan of the Broadway blockbuster Rent, you already know from the song Seasons of Love that there are 525,600 minutes in a year. And, if you’ve been staying up to date with all things COVID-19 related, you probably also know that the United States surpassed 525,600 deaths the same week as the anniversary of when the pandemic was announced.

Yes, the loss of life throughout the world due to COVID-19 is beyond heartbreaking. And yes, those with broken hearts from loved ones lost from being sick is just as devastating.

While the past year has been an intense roller coaster filled with fear, uncertainty, and reflection, it’s also been an opportunity to prioritize what’s important. Because, as we’ve all learned from the past 365 days, tomorrow isn’t promised.

Now that the world has hit the year mark, there’s seems to be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. But, while there’s a bit of hope, there’s still a long way to go before the world will feel “a bit” better — even though there’s been so much loss of life.

So, as you look forward, how do you see the next 525,600 minutes of your life unfolding? In the spirit of Rent’s theme song, “How about love?”
