COVID-19 has changed the world. Most likely, the pandemic has forced you to pause and recalibrate. Although you might feel like you’ve been stopped in your tracks, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

In these trying times, a pivot or shift of focus may help guide you forward. While everyone has been impacted by COVID-19 in different ways, the following ideas are suggestions about how you can keep your eye on the prize during this trying time.

Take Control of Your Actions

There’s a lot of uncertainty in America thanks to some people in denial that COVID-19 is real. While you can confront and debate wearing a mask and politics with every person who thinks differently than you, the reality is you most likely won’t change their mind. However, you can lead by example.

So, do your part and wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep a safe distance from others. Also do things you have control over such as diet, exercise, and checking-in with loved-ones. By taking control of your actions, you are taking steps to be where you want to be — safe and sound!

Change Your Tune

While you may not be able to travel or socialize how you’re used to, you can still connect and stay engaged. Aside from turning to zoom, check out some things to do if you’re not able to venture out. Or, take a look here to learn of ways to fulfill your urge to travel without going far from home during COVID-19.

The world isn’t over, it’s just very different. Instead of thinking the sky is falling, reframe your thoughts to something like, “how do I want the world to look a year from now?”

When you change your tune, you’re taking control of your trajectory and taking action; rather than reacting to the situation.

Volunteering and incorporating a daily meditation practice into your routine are some ways you can take action and make a difference. You can also take a professional development course to train for a new career, learn a new hobby or skill. Whatever it is, thinking differently is critical to moving forward and getting unstuck.

Re-invent Yourself

I’ve heard friends say that COVID-19 has forced them to look inward and re-evaluate what’s important. This could mean repairing a strained relationship. Or, perhaps it’s downsizing your closet and material possessions.

In these tough times, keep your eye open for opportunities. For instance, I’m planning to live and work abroad. While I can’t make my move at the moment, I can hone my skills and learn more about my industry. Then, when it’s time to move, I’ll be ready to go!

Save Your Pennies

Now’s not the time to throw caution to the wind. So, save, save, and save some more!

If you’re like me, I’m sure you’re spending less than usual these days. If you can, keep growing your rainy-day fund. By managing your money, you’re taking control of what you need now and where you want to be in the future.

Stay Informed

It’s also good to stay informed. I don’t suggest obsessively watching the news, but it’s good to know what the latest and greatest reliable news is about travel restrictions, the economy, and COVID-19. Knowing what’s up will help you make the right decisions as you plan to move forward.

So, keep your eye on the prize. Honor your feelings and remember that this too shall pass. Also, remember to share your plans as this makes them real. Your dream will happen and you’ll get where you want to be; it’s just a matter of when!
